Clerk of Works

[Ref: CoW1-2011]

We are looking for a local Clerk of Works for a multi-million pound infrastructure contract in the Bedford area. You will be employed by Hannah-Reed, starting in April 2012 (tbc), and we expect your employment to last until March 2014.

As a civil engineering clerk of works, you will monitor and record the resources and work of the infrastructure contractor, and nominated contractors, to make sure that specifications are met and our client gets both quality and value for money. The main contractor will have management responsibilities for the entire site, and the sensitivity of the natural forest environment will require the strict policing of working areas and tree protection measures. Liaison with other inspectors and contractors for the building contracts will be necessary.

You will report to our in-house Project Manager and Supervisor under the NEC contract; you will assist in pro-actively managing early warning notifications and compensation events, and will record any impacts. You will participate in regular site progress meetings.

You will need an appropriate technical or professional qualification, and preferably will have experience of the NEC Contract. You will need experience in monitoring the construction of multi-disciplinary infrastructure works of significant value, including earthworks, highways, drainage and M&E services. The ability to communicate effectively is important in this role and you should be proficient in the use of spoken and written English, including report writing. Some knowledge of pavement and infrastructure design would be advantageous but relevant practical experience is essential.
